With over 45 years of cannabis experience, David Johnson — known as Doktor High — has become a trusted authority in cultivation, genetics, extraction, and cannabis education. Beginning in the legacy era and later transitioning into the Canadian legal cannabis sector, David has built a reputation for combining hands-on expertise with authentic teaching to help others understand and benefit from the plant.
Professional Experience
David’s professional journey in the legal cannabis industry is as broad as it is deep. At Freedom Cannabis in Acheson, Alberta, he was promoted to the role of Packaging and Inventory Supervisor after having spent time contributing to the cultivation and genetics teams. His work included all pre-roll production, developing compliant packaging systems, mentoring new staff, and ensuring operations aligned with Health Canada’s Cannabis Act and Good Production Practices (GPP).
Beyond cultivation, David brought his knowledge to the business side of cannabis with Inhal'Nation, spending nearly five years in wholesale accessory sales to head shops and dispensaries across Canada. This experience gave him insight into B2B sales, product trends, and retail culture at scale.
He further expanded his skill set with post-production experience at MTL Cannabis, leading weekend shifts for harvest, bucking, and trimming. This role emphasized efficiency, teamwork, and attention to detail during critical production stages.
Today, David continues to stay connected at the grassroots level, working with The Medicine Box , a First Nations dispensary in Oka Quebec, while simultaneously building the Doktor High platform into a leading hub for cannabis knowledge and culture.
Legacy Work & Patient Advocacy
Before legalization, David designed, built, and operated a 4,000 sq/ft medical cannabis grow room supporting multiple ACMPR patients. Over the years, he has coached nearly 100 medical cannabis patients, providing personalized care plans and guidance rooted in education and harm reduction.
His extraction background includes eight years in closed-loop hydrocarbon processing and extensive work in rosin pressing, further establishing him as a practitioner with practical expertise across product categories.
Manufacturing & Product Development
David’s experience also extends into cannabis manufacturing, where he has overseen the production of over 100,000 cannabis oil vape pens, along with edibles and topicals. His mission has always been to pair quality manufacturing practices with patient-first values, bridging the gap between innovation and care.
